Jakarta: The latest death toll from the floods and landslides in Indonesia's Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra has surged to 836, according to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB).
According to Kuwait News Agency, more than 2,700 individuals have been injured, while 518 people remain missing due to the disaster. The BNPB stated in a press release that search and rescue operations are ongoing, involving a joint team of Indonesian army and police forces alongside local volunteers.
Indonesian Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni noted that inadequate forest management had exacerbated the disaster's impact. He committed to investigating 12 companies suspected of contributing to the situation.
