India, Iran, Armenia Discuss Connectivity, Trade, and Tourism

NEW DELHI: India, Iran, and Armenia convened for trilateral consultations on Thursday to explore avenues for enhancing connectivity, trade, tourism, and cultural exchange. The meeting, which took place in New Delhi, marked the second installment of the India-Iran-Armenia Trilateral Consultations, following an initial session in Yerevan in April 2023. According to Kuwait News Agency, the discussions focused on the development of connectivity initiatives and engagement in multilateral fora. The delegations examined regional developments and emphasized the significance of strengthening ties in trade, tourism, and cultural interactions. The talks also underscored the necessity of close collaboration under the International North-South Transport Corridor, with particular attention to the strategic importance of Chabahar Port. The Armenian delegation introduced 'The Crossroads of Peace,' a transport project designed to connect Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran, and Turkey, aiming to enhance regional connectivity and foster peaceful relations. The Indian delegation was led by J.P. Singh, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of External Affairs, while the Iranian team was headed by Hashem Ashja Zadeh, Director General of the South Asia Division at the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Anahit Karapetyan, Head of the Asia-Pacific Department at Armenia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led her country's delegation. All parties reiterated their commitment to continued collaboration within this trilateral format and agreed to convene the next round of consultations in Iran at a mutually convenient date.
