Zanzibar: India and Tanzania have agreed to deepen their bilateral defence cooperation during the fourth edition of the Joint Defence Cooperation Committee meeting.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the meeting took place in Zanzibar from February 2-3, where officials from both nations reviewed their ongoing defence collaboration and discussed an extensive range of areas for further partnership. The talks covered military training, service-to-service cooperation, maritime security, and defence industry collaboration. Additionally, new avenues such as counter-terrorism, peacekeeping training, and capacity building in areas like electronic warfare, cyber, and artificial intelligence were explored to further reinforce bilateral defence ties.
Furthermore, cooperation in military medicine emerged as a potential new area of collaboration. Both sides also agreed to initiate cooperation between their Air Forces, complementing the existing partnership between their Navies and Armies. The Indian delegation was led by Amitabh Prasad, Joint Secretary (Defence Cooperation) at the Defence Ministry, while the Tanzanian delegation was headed by Ibrahim Mhona, Chief of Operations and Training at the Tanzania People's Defence Force.
India and Tanzania share a close, warm, and strategic partnership, which is guided by a five-year roadmap aimed at enhancing mutual cooperation and understanding.
