India Achieves Milestone with Successful Stratospheric Airship Flight-Trials

Sheopur: Indian defense authorities announced the successful completion of maiden flight-trials for the Stratospheric Airship Platform on Saturday.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the Indian Defence Ministry revealed that the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) conducted these trials at the Sheopur Trial site in Madhya Pradesh. The airship, developed by the Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment in Agra, was launched to an altitude of approximately 17 kilometers carrying an instrumental payload. The total duration of the flight was about 62 minutes.

Data collected from onboard sensors during the flight will be used to develop high-quality fidelity simulation models for future high-altitude airship flights. DRDO Chairman Dr. Samir V Kamat praised the team responsible for the design, development, and trial of the system, highlighting the prototype flight as a significant milestone towards realizing lighter-than-air high-altitude platform systems capable of long endurance at stratospheric heights.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also extended his congratulations to DRDO for the successful trial, emphasizing that this achievement will significantly enhance India's earth observation and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities. With this successful trial, India joins a select group of countries possessing such indigenous capabilities.
