Kuwait city: The International Islamic Charity Organization (IICO) reaffirmed Kuwait's longstanding commitment to its humanitarian role through its charitable institutions, on the occasion of World Humanitarian Day, observed annually on August 19.
According to Kuwait News Agency, IICO Deputy Director General Ibrahim Al-Bader highlighted the organization's efforts to empower individuals economically, socially, and educationally. The IICO has been pivotal in providing vital support to vulnerable communities globally. From 2020 to 2024, the organization implemented nearly 17,000 projects across health, education, development, and relief sectors, with a total expenditure surpassing KD 66 million (USD 216 million), benefiting impoverished communities in more than 48 countries.
Al-Bader further noted that IICO's initiatives go beyond direct aid, encompassing impactful educational programs such as the learning difficulties initiative targeted at Syrian refugees and displaced persons in Jordan, Lebanon, and Turkiye. The organization has also launched cultural projects and economic empowerment initiatives aimed at supporting productive families and youth employment, aligning with its vision for sustainable development.
He emphasized that providing relief to Palestinians in Gaza remains a top priority for the organization. Since the onset of the Israeli occupation aggression, IICO has executed 108 urgent relief projects, with 33 more in progress, totaling over USD 16 million. The organization also actively participated in the latest national relief campaign for Gaza.
In ensuring the efficient selection and distribution of food to those in need, Al-Bader affirmed that IICO coordinates with the Kuwait Red Crescent Society and Kuwait Flour Mills and Bakeries Company.
