Heavy Rains and Flash Floods Claim 13 Lives Across Pakistan

Islamabad: At least 13 more people lost their lives, while 15 others went missing due to heavy rains across Pakistan, said authorities on Tuesday.

According to Kuwait News Agency, at least five children lost their lives in rain-related incidents in Swat district of KPK as torrential rains triggered flash floods in various parts of the region. Rescue 1122 spokesperson Shafiqa Gul reported that a woman and her two sons drowned while attempting to cross a stream in the Sur Dherai area of Malam Jabba in Swat. The bodies of the two sons were recovered by rescue personnel hours later.

In another incident in Gujar Band Shanko area of Madyan, a house collapsed due to heavy rainfall, resulting in the deaths of three children and serious injuries to a woman. Additionally, flash floods in the Gilgit-Baltistan region killed five people, and 15 others went missing as over 200 stranded tourists were rescued, stated Diamer district chief DC Attaullah Kakar.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned that the current weather conditions have heightened the risk of Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (Glofs), flash floods, and landslides in vulnerable glaciated regions of Gilgit-Baltistan and KPK.

Meanwhile, three people lost their lives in the eastern city of Rawalpindi due to heavy rain, which caused a rise in water levels.

President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have instructed relevant departments to accelerate relief activities and provide every possible assistance and rehabilitation facilities to those affected by the floods.
