Hamas Postpones Prisoner Exchange Amid Accusations of Israeli Violations

Gaza City: The Palestinian Resistance Movement, Hamas, announced on Monday its decision to postpone any further hostage-prisoner exchanges under the current Gaza ceasefire, citing accusations against the Israeli occupation for violating the agreement.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the ceasefire, which began on January 19, effectively halted over 15 months of conflict in the Gaza Strip and included the release of five groups of Israeli hostages in exchange for hundreds of Palestinians held by Israel. However, the process has hit a snag with Hamas accusing Israel of failing to uphold the truce terms.

A spokesperson for Hamas's armed wing, the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, stated that the upcoming hostage release, initially scheduled for Saturday, February 15, 2025, has been postponed indefinitely. The spokesperson, Abu-Obaida, highlighted the need for Israel to comply with the agreement's conditions and meet the obligations set in previous weeks before any further exchanges occur.

Abu-Obaida emphasized Hamas's commitment to the agreement, contingent on Israel's adherence to its terms. The statement reflects ongoing tensions and the fragile nature of the ceasefire amidst mutual accusations between the involved parties.
