German President Steinmeier’s Cultural and Sports Tour in England

London: On the second day of his State visit, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier joined British Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy in touring the V and A East at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford. President Steinmeier's visit underscores the strengthening of cultural and sporting ties between Germany and the UK.

According to Kuwait News Agency, President Steinmeier was accompanied by international football stars Georgia Stanway of England and Bayern Munich, and Kai Havertz of Germany and Arsenal, at the Bobby Moore Academy in east London. The visit aimed to highlight the power of sports in promoting inclusion and its positive impact on local communities.

In conjunction with the President's visit, new sporting and cultural agreements have been established between the UK and Germany. These include the introduction of a UK-Germany Creative Industries Prize, intended to inspire innovation and stimulate growth and opportunities in these sectors. A grassroots sports exchange is also in the works, with £100,000 allocated to support inclusion and community unity.

The collaboration extends to youth engagement, with a UK-Germany Youth Summit planned to take place in Berlin. This summit will bring together young individuals from both countries, fostering cross-cultural understanding and collaboration. Furthermore, a new cross-border celebration of volunteering is on the horizon, with the UK's Big Help Out set to return in 2026 and Germany preparing to launch its own version, Der Ehrentag.

Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy emphasized the significance of the German President's State Visit, noting it as a pivotal moment reflecting the strong economic, cultural, and diplomatic partnership between the two nations. The new agreements on sport, culture, and youth aim to create a lasting legacy of connection, benefiting both the UK and Germany.
