German and Austrian Interior Ministers Cancel Syria Visit Due to “Possible Threats”

Damascus: The German and Austrian Interior Ministers canceled their visit to Syria due to reports of "possible threats" to their delegations, said a German authorities statement on Thursday.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Germany's Nancy Faeser and her Austrian counterpart Gerhard Karner will not visit Damascus as scheduled, a spokesman for the German Interior Ministry revealed. The reason for the cancelation was due to "concrete warnings by German security authorities of a terrorist threat," added the source who indicated that the ministers were supposed to arrive in Damascus after concluding their current visit to Amman, Jordan.

The two ministers were to discuss with Syrian authorities issues pertaining to security and the return of Syrian refugees. The two arrived in Amman yesterday where they focused their talks on issues of mutual interest.
