GCC Welcomes UN Efforts to Integrate Human Rights into National Laws

Geneva: The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries on Friday expressed their support for United Nations efforts to integrate human rights into national laws and policies, enhance the implementation of sustainable development goals, and establish national institutions to protect human rights.

According to Kuwait News Agency, this announcement was made in a speech by the Permanent Representative of the State of Kuwait to the United Nations in Geneva, Ambassador Nasser Al-Hayen, during a general discussion on the report of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. The discussion also addressed technical cooperation and capacity building in the field of human rights for states and the report of the National Commission to Investigate Violations in Yemen, in line with the Human Rights Council resolution.

Ambassador Al-Hayen, who also leads the Council of Ambassadors of the GCC, welcomed the release of the 13th report of the Independent Yemeni National Commission and praised its efforts, alongside those of legitimate Yemeni institutions, to investigate human rights violations. The GCC countries urged the international community to maintain support for the commission to help complete its investigations.

He highlighted the importance of efforts by Saudi Arabia and the Sultanate of Oman to revive the political process in Yemen to achieve a comprehensive and sustainable political solution. Ambassador Al-Hayen reiterated the call for GCC countries to participate in the Food Security Conference in Yemen, scheduled for October 27 and 28, 2025, at the GCC General Secretariat, urging the provision of humanitarian and development support to the Yemeni people.

In a related note, Ambassador Al-Hayen commended the efforts of Libya and Somalia, acknowledging their significant initiatives, and called on the international community to continue providing technical support and capacity building to these countries, thereby enhancing their commitment to human rights.
