GCC Urges Capacity Building to Boost Human Rights

Kuwait city: The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC): stressed the importance of technical cooperation and capacity building towards the promotion and protection of human rights in a manner that complies with the requirements of every country.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Kuwait's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva, Naser Al-Hayen, who is also the chairman of the Council of GCC Ambassadors, made these remarks during a seminar on capacity building and technical cooperation of human rights. This seminar was part of the 59th session of the UN Human Rights Council.

The GCC countries expressed concern over the financial challenges facing the UN High Commission for Human Rights. Al-Hayen highlighted that these challenges could undermine the commission's ability to meet the growing demand for technical support from various countries and organizations.

He reiterated the GCC's support for the commission, emphasizing the need to enhance national capacities related to human rights. The GCC is comprised of Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Oman.
