Geneva: The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) reaffirmed its unwavering support for Syria's sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity while rejecting foreign interference in its internal affairs and any actions that fuel divisions among the Syrian people.
According to Kuwait News Agency, this statement was delivered by Kuwait's Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Nasser Al-Hayen. Serving as Chairman of the GCC Ambassadors' Council, Al-Hayen spoke during the interactive dialogue with the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria at the United Nations Human Rights Council.
Ambassador Al-Hayen emphasized that Syria's security and stability are fundamental pillars of regional stability. He highlighted the importance of combating extremism, radicalization, and incitement, stressing the need to respect diversity and religious beliefs as a priority for the GCC. He reiterated the GCC's support for efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive political transition that ensures security, stability, and prosperity under the rule of law and justice.
The ambassador also welcomed the convening of the Syrian National Dialogue Conference, expressing hope that it would contribute to fulfilling the aspirations of the Syrian people across all factions while preserving Syria's unity and sovereignty. He called on all parties in Syria to prioritize national interests, achieve reconciliation, safeguard civilians, and protect state institutions.
Furthermore, he stressed the GCC's position on integrating armed factions under the Ministry of Defense to ensure that weapons remain under state control, thereby restoring Syria's regional and international role. He welcomed the agreement on merging all civil and military institutions in northeastern Syria into national institutions. The GCC also called for lifting sanctions on Syria and providing all necessary support to the Syrian people, reaffirming the bloc's commitment to delivering humanitarian assistance.
