KUWAIT CITY: Some of the most significant achievements of the GCC are unifying the member states’ foreign policies toward regional issues and establishing useful partnerships with states of the world, a GCC official said on Wednesday. The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has been instrumental in resolving regional conflicts and aiding Arab states in addressing pressing issues, according to a high-ranking official from the organization.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Uwaisheq, the GCC assistant secretary general for political affairs, emphasized the importance of these partnerships during a statement released after a seminar held as part of the Gulf Weeks Festival. This event was organized in anticipation of the forthcoming GCC Summit. Dr. Al-Uwaisheq highlighted the recent joint summit with the European Union, as well as meetings with Central Asian states and the ASEAN states, alongside collaborations with the US and Britain. These efforts, he noted, bolster the GCC’s role and enhance its ca
pacity to address global affairs.
Dr. Al-Uwaisheq also paid tribute to the late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who was the visionary behind the establishment of the GCC, which was founded in 1981. The council has since played a crucial role in unifying member states’ foreign policies and fostering collaboration among its members.
He further noted that the GCC has been a key player in tackling regional issues, with a particular focus on aiding Arab states. He cited Saudi Arabia’s recent announcement of forming an international coalition to implement a two-state solution for Palestine as a significant example of the GCC’s initiatives in resolving longstanding conflicts.
