GCC Chief: Radiological Data Exchange Platform Confirms GCC States Keenness on Security

Riyadh: Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jassem Al-Budaiwi, announced that the establishment of the GCC Radiation Data Exchange Platform (GCC-RDEP) project between the GCC Emergency Management Center (EMC) and the Joint Research Centre (JRC) in the EU underscores the commitment of GCC countries to the security and stability of the region.

According to Kuwait News Agency, this statement was part of Al-Budaiwi's address at the project's launch meeting, attended by the EU Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Christophe Farnaud. He elaborated that the creation of the GCC EMC Operations Room and the installation of various warning devices across the GCC were implemented following directives from the GCC Ministers of Interior and Defense, utilizing state-of-the-art equipment to prepare for potential challenges.

Al-Budaiwi emphasized that the project aims to mitigate the impact of nuclear and radiological disasters in the region, employing advanced technology, simulation systems, and thorough monitoring practices. He acknowledged the significant contributions and efforts of the project's partners, including representatives from both the EU and GCC countries, as well as key decision-makers and experts in the nuclear and radiological sectors.

Furthermore, Al-Budaiwi commended the strong relations between the GCC and the EU, highlighting the inaugural Gulf-European Summit in Brussels, October 2024, and the various areas of cooperation, particularly in the fields discussed.
