GCC Chief Openly Deplores Attack on Aid Convoy in Sudan

Kuwait city: Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Al-Budaiwi on Saturday condemned in the strongest terms a recent attack on a humanitarian aid convoy near Mellit in Sudan's North Darfur. According to Kuwait News Agency, Al-Budaiwi emphasized the importance of protecting civilians and humanitarian teams from the conflict and stressed the necessity of adhering to international and humanitarian laws that forbid the targeting of relief aid and supplies. The GCC chief urged respect for humanitarian and relief efforts and called for ensuring the unrestricted and safe delivery of aid to those in need. He described the attack on humanitarian convoys as a clear violation of international laws and norms, which threatens efforts to achieve security and stability in Darfur and throughout Sudan.
