New York: GCC Secretary General Jassem Al-Budaiwi engaged in discussions with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres regarding the escalating situation in the Middle East and ongoing de-escalation efforts, as stated by the council's Secretariat on Tuesday.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the conversation between the officials revolved around regional and international issues, focusing on the recent developments in the conflict between Iran and the Israeli occupation forces. Both leaders emphasized the importance of efforts to de-escalate tensions and enhance security and stability in the region.
The Secretary General of the GCC reiterated the Council's dedication to supporting international and UN initiatives, as highlighted in the statement from the 48th Extraordinary Ministerial Meeting of the GCC Ministerial Council. The statement underscored the urgency of an immediate ceasefire to maintain regional security and stability. It called for all parties to collaborate in reducing tensions, prioritize diplomacy for dispute resolution, exercise maximum restraint, and shield the region and its inhabitants from the perils of war.
