Washington: Matt Gaetz, the nominee of US President-elect Donald Trump for Secretary of Justice, announced Thursday that he is withdrawing his name from consideration to serve as Attorney General. The former Republican Representative of Florida expressed his decision on his X account, highlighting the discussions he had with Senators regarding his potential nomination for the top law-enforcement position in the United States.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Gaetz mentioned that while the meetings were constructive and the support was strong, his confirmation process was becoming a distraction to the Trump/Vance Transition’s critical work. He emphasized the need for the Department of Justice to be ready from Day 1 and stated that there was no time to engage in unnecessary political battles. Gaetz reiterated his commitment to ensuring Donald J. Trump becomes a successful President and expressed gratitude for being nominated to lead the Department of Justice.

Despite this, President Trump praised Gaetz’s efforts in pursuing the Attorney General role, acknowledging his respect for the administration and predicting a bright future for him.
