European Parliament Urges Support for Syrian Transitional Government Amid Crisis

Brussels: The European Parliament has called for increased international support for the Syrian transitional government, emphasizing the need for enhanced humanitarian assistance in north-east Syria. This appeal comes in response to the worsening security and humanitarian conditions and the ongoing struggles faced by civilians in the region.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the resolution passed by the European Parliament highlights the urgent need for international intervention, condemning acts of violence against civilians. It stresses the importance for all parties involved to adhere to the ceasefire, uphold international humanitarian laws, and ensure the protection of civilian infrastructure.

Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) referenced reports from the United Nations and human rights organizations detailing severe violations, including extrajudicial killings, forced displacement, and indiscriminate attacks, particularly targeting the Kurdish population. They have called for immediate international action to promote stability and safeguard civilians.

The resolution also praises the agreement between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Syrian transitional government. It underscores the necessity of political and humanitarian support to ensure the success of the transitional phase, aiming to protect the rights of all communities while maintaining Syria's unity and territorial integrity.

Furthermore, the European Union has been urged to increase its humanitarian aid to Syria and back the transitional government's efforts to achieve stability and prevent the reemergence of Daesh, which poses a threat to both national and regional security.

The resolution was passed with 363 votes in favor, 71 against, and 81 abstentions, reflecting a strong call for action from the European legislative body.
