European Council President to Attend Sharm El-Sheikh Summit for Peace

Sharm el-sheikh: The European Council announced on Sunday that its President, Antonio Costa, will attend the “Sharm El-Sheikh Summit for Peace” on Monday, representing the European Union.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Costa stated before his departure to Egypt that the summit marks the beginning of a significant journey towards achieving peace. He expressed optimism about the prospects for the release of all hostages, a ceasefire, and unhindered humanitarian access to Gaza. Costa highlighted that this initiative aims to foster a just and sustainable peace and a more hopeful future, emphasizing the importance of the two-state solution. He confirmed his participation in the summit’s proceedings in Sharm El-Sheikh, including witnessing the signing ceremony of the agreement to end the war in Gaza, alongside the mediators and US President Donald Trump.

The agreement, which is part of the initial phase of the Middle East Peace Plan facilitated by the United States, Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, represents a pivotal advancement towards concluding the conflict in Gaza. It aims to establish a lasting ceasefire, ensure the release of hostages, and restore full humanitarian aid access to the region.

The European Council reiterated the European Union’s dedication to supporting transitional governance, recovery, and reconstruction efforts to guarantee the success of the post-conflict phase. This includes ongoing support for the Palestinian Authority, with the objective of achieving long-term stability based on the two-state solution.
