Brussels: European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen expressed her support for US President Donald Trump's commitment to ending the war in Gaza, emphasizing a call to action for all involved parties to embrace this chance for peace.
According to Kuwait News Agency, von der Leyen conveyed her approval in a post on X, stating, "I welcome President Trump's commitment to end the war in Gaza. I encourage all parties to now seize this opportunity." She highlighted the EU's readiness to contribute to the peace process and stressed the importance of ceasing hostilities to provide immediate humanitarian relief to Gaza's population, alongside the immediate release of all hostages. Von der Leyen reaffirmed the EU's stance that a two-state solution is essential for achieving a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas also shared her views on X, describing Trump's Gaza plan as a "chance for lasting peace" and the "best immediate chance to end the war." Kallas reiterated the EU's willingness to support the plan's success, aligning with the broader EU strategy for peace in the region.
