EU Warns of Escalation After Russia’s Use of Oreshnik Missile

Brussels: EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas stated that Russia's reported strike against Ukraine using a new Oreshnik ballistic missile was intended to send a message to Europe and the United States.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Kallas expressed on X that "Russian President Vladimir Putin does not want peace, and Russia's response to diplomacy is more missiles and destruction." She emphasized that "this deadly pattern of recurring major Russian strikes will continue unless we help Ukraine break it."

Kallas highlighted that the reported use of the Oreshnik missile marks "a clear escalation against Ukraine" and serves "as a warning directed at Europe and the United States."

The EU official urged EU member states to "dig deeper into their air-defence stocks and deliver now" while also calling for "further raising the cost of this war for Moscow, including through tougher sanctions."
