EU Strongly Condemns Houthi Attack on Bulk Carrier in the Red Sea

Kuwait city: The European Union strongly condemned on Monday the attack carried out by the Houthis in the Red Sea on July 6, targeting the commercial bulk carrier MV Magic Seas.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the EU said in a press release the attack endangered the lives of the vessel's crew, who had to be urgently evacuated, and warned of a potential major environmental disaster in the region, as the ship is currently adrift and at risk of sinking.

The EU stressed that this was the first attack of its kind on a commercial vessel in 2025, describing it as a serious escalation that threatens maritime security in one of the world's most vital waterways.

The statement added that such attacks "directly threaten regional peace and stability, global commerce and freedom of navigation as a global public good," cautioning that the continuation of these acts could further worsen Yemen's already dire humanitarian situation.

The European Union recalled the UNSC's repeated demands for the immediate cessation of Houthi attacks in the Red Sea region.
