Brussels: EU Spokesperson Paula Pinho stated on Monday that the European Union is not prepared to commence discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin concerning the conflict in Ukraine. While addressing media at the European Commission headquarters, Pinho emphasized that the situation has not yet matured to a point where such talks could be initiated.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the European Union aims to reach a stage where dialogue with Russia could eventually lead to peace in Ukraine. This cautious stance follows recent appeals by French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who have advocated for Europe to renew its dialogue with Russia.
During an annual press conference in Rome on Friday, Meloni urged the EU to appoint a special envoy for engaging with Russia and to initiate direct communication to help end the war in Ukraine. Her call aligns with Macron's earlier appeal last month for opening new channels of dialogue with the Kremlin.
