brussels: The European Union announced on Thursday that it has reached an agreement with the Israeli occupation aimed at expanding "humanitarian access" to the Gaza Strip.
According to Kuwait News Agency, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas stated in a post on X, "Today, we reached an agreement with Israel to expand humanitarian access to Gaza." She further elaborated that the agreement includes provisions for more crossings to be open, increased entry of aid and food trucks into Gaza, repair of vital infrastructure, and protection for aid workers. Kallas emphasized that the EU expects Israel to implement every measure agreed upon.
The announcement of this agreement comes just ahead of a scheduled meeting of EU foreign ministers next week. During this meeting, the ministers are expected to discuss the potential suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement, due to what the Union perceives as violations of the human rights clause within the agreement. Notably, countries such as Spain, Belgium, Ireland, and the Netherlands have all called for the suspension of the agreement.
