Brussels: European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced on Monday that the European Union is preparing additional measures under its sanctions regime, following the escalating situation along the Lithuanian-Belarusian border. Von der Leyen had spoken with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda about the deteriorating conditions at the border with Belarus, amid the increasing incursions of smuggling balloons into Lithuanian airspace.
According to Kuwait News Agency, von der Leyen highlighted the worsening situation at the border, emphasizing the growing incursions of smuggling balloons into Lithuania's airspace. She conveyed her concerns through her X account, labeling the actions as a "hybrid attack" by the Lukashenka regime and described it as completely unacceptable. The European Commission President reaffirmed the EU's support for Lithuania, stating that the country continues to have the EU's full solidarity.
