EU Opposes Israeli Military Actions in Gaza, Supports Egypt’s Stabilization Efforts

Cairo: The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, reaffirmed the EU's opposition to the ongoing military actions by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Kallas made this statement during a joint press conference with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty in Cairo. She commended Egypt's pivotal role in negotiating a ceasefire and a hostage release agreement in Gaza, emphasizing that the EU and Egypt are significant partners in maintaining stability in the Middle East.

Kallas highlighted the discussions held in Cairo about the current situations in Gaza and Syria. She reiterated the EU's call for Israeli authorities to allow unobstructed humanitarian aid to reach the besieged residents of Gaza and urged an increase in efforts to ensure the ceasefire agreement remains effective.

The EU-Egypt collaboration was praised by Kallas, particularly in sectors such as politics, trade, immigration, security, and education. She noted that their cooperation has substantially intensified following the Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership agreement signed last year.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Abdelatty mentioned that the talks with the EU addressed the Gaza reconstruction plan, which was approved during the emergency Arab summit in Cairo in early March. The plan includes forming a committee of 15 non-political members from Gaza to oversee governance and security for six months. Concurrently, the Palestinian National Authority will be re-established in Gaza to manage its affairs.

Abdelatty also highlighted the enhancement of relations with the EU, which was upgraded last year to a comprehensive strategic partnership encompassing political, economic, trade, immigration, security, defense, educational, and cultural domains.
