Brussels: The European Commission announced on Friday the imposition of definitive anti-dumping duties on imports of valine into the European Union from China, as part of measures to protect European industry and counter Chinese competition. According to Kuwait News Agency, the Commission stated that the duties imposed range from 31.3 percent to 53.8 percent. This decision was made following an investigation which concluded that imports of valine from China were entering the EU market at dumped prices. The Commission highlighted that these practices have inflicted direct harm on the EU valine industry, predominantly based in France. Valine, which is available in three different grades-food, feed, and pharmaceutical-is used in various sectors. It is most notably utilized in animal feed, as a dietary supplement in the food industry, and within the pharmaceutical industry. The EU valine market is estimated to be worth approximately EUR 100 million, with imports from China accounting for about EUR 80 million, u nderscoring the significant presence of Chinese products in the European market.
