EU Foreign Ministers Agree on Roadmap to Ease Sanctions on Syria

Brussels: EU member states agreed on Monday on a "roadmap" to ease sanctions imposed on Syria. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, announced the agreement through a post on the social media platform X, stating that the EU Foreign Ministers have reached a consensus on a plan to ease the sanctions on Syria. These sanctions, which were imposed during the rule of President Bashar al-Assad, have targeted various financial, commercial, and economic sectors within the country.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Kallas emphasized the urgency of the situation, highlighting the necessity to act swiftly, while also cautioning that sanctions could be reinstated if Syria's new administration takes unfavorable actions. This statement underscores the EU's commitment to closely monitor developments in Syria as they consider adjusting their sanctions policy.

Additionally, the EU has previously shown a willingness to contribute to Syria's reconstruction efforts and to establish stable diplomatic relations with the country, signaling a potential shift in their approach towards Syria as the geopolitical landscape evolves.
