EU Criticizes Israeli Land Registration Measures in West Bank as Unlawful

Brussels: EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas announced on Wednesday that the newly approved measures by the Israeli occupation's security cabinet, aimed at amending land registration and property acquisition procedures in the West Bank, have been deemed unlawful.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Kallas issued a statement on behalf of the European Union, describing the measures as "counterproductive and incompatible with international law." She cautioned that these actions could potentially undermine international efforts to stabilize the situation and advance peace in the region.

The EU's statement emphasized its "long-standing position" of not recognizing Israeli occupation sovereignty over territories occupied since June 1967, in alignment with relevant United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions. It also highlighted concerns regarding decisions impacting the implementation of the Hebron Protocol between the Israeli occupation and the Palestinian Authority, which could jeopardize the delicate status quo of religious sites.

Reaffirming its commitment to a lasting and sustainable peace, the EU reiterated its support for the UNSC resolutions and the two-state solution framework, advocating for the establishment of an independent, democratic, contiguous, sovereign, and viable Palestinian state. The EU vowed to continue collaborating with international partners, including through the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, urging all parties to abstain from unilateral actions that escalate tensions and further hinder the prospects for a negotiated settlement.

The EU stressed the importance of this restraint, especially as coordinated international efforts are actively underway to promote peace and stability in the region.
