EU Commissioner Stresses Necessity of Respecting International Law at Humanitarian Forum

Brussels: European Union Crisis Management Commissioner Hadja Lahbib emphasized that respecting international humanitarian law is an absolute necessity that must be upheld by all parties.

According to Kuwait News Agency, this assertion was made during the opening session of the 4th European Humanitarian Forum 2025 in Brussels. The forum is being held at a time when humanitarian principles are facing significant challenges, as highlighted by Lahbib.

She urged the EU Commission and its international partners, including the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), to uphold and defend the core values fundamental to humanitarian work. Lahbib also cautioned against the risks of politicizing and militarizing humanitarian aid, underscoring the importance of refraining from actions that could violate humanitarian principles.

The forum features representatives from various humanitarian organizations and EU member states, who are engaging in strategic discussions and proposing sustainable solutions to address ongoing humanitarian challenges.
