EU Calls for Sustained Implementation of Ethiopian Truce.

Brussels: The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, has urged both the Ethiopian government and the Tigray People's Liberation Front to ensure the continued implementation of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (CoHA) for the benefit of all Ethiopians residing in the northern region. According to Kuwait News Agency, Borrell issued a statement on Saturday marking the two-year anniversary of the ceasefire agreement's signing. He reiterated the EU's call for a peaceful resolution to Ethiopia's ongoing conflicts, emphasizing the necessity of "respecting human rights at all times in accordance with Ethiopia's continental and international obligations." The agreement has facilitated notable developments such as the restoration of basic services, improved humanitarian access, and the return of some internally displaced persons, while acknowledging the complexities involved in the process, as stated in the announcement. Borrell also emphasized the importance of achieving transitional justice in a manner focused on victims and urged all parties to engage in the ongoing national dialogue. Additionally, he confirmed the EU's willingness to deepen its commitment to Ethiopia, building on the conclusions of the Foreign Affairs Council in April 2023.
