Brussels: EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas welcomed the "firm stance" announced by US President Donald Trump on Russia, describing it as a "positive step" toward increasing pressure on Moscow to push it toward peace. However, she also expressed concerns regarding the proposed timeline for achieving this goal.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Kallas addressed reporters, emphasizing the significance of President Trump's strong position on Russia. She remarked, "It is very positive that President Trump is taking a strong stance on Russia," but cautioned that "50 days is a very long time if we see that they are killing innocent civilians every day."
Kallas highlighted the urgent need for collective pressure on Russia to encourage its pursuit of peace. She added, "It is clear that we all need to put more pressure on Russia so that they would also want peace," and noted, "It is good that the Americans are making the steps, and I hope that they are also giving military aid like Europeans are giving."
In a recent announcement, US President Donald Trump introduced new weapons for Ukraine and threatened sanctions on importers of Russian exports unless Moscow agrees to a peace deal within 50 days.
