Brussels: The European Union welcomed the ceasefire agreement and the release of hostages in Gaza, urging both parties to fully implement the accord.
According to Kuwait News Agency, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen expressed that the agreement would enable humanitarian aid to reach civilians in the Gaza Strip. She emphasized that it brings hope to a region where people have endured suffering for an extended period. Von der Leyen highlighted the importance of both parties adhering to the agreement's terms, considering it a step toward lasting stability and a diplomatic resolution of the conflict.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, also praised the ceasefire and hostages' release, describing it as a significant breakthrough toward ending the violence. European Parliament President Roberta Metsola remarked that the ceasefire announcement represents the breakthrough the world has been anticipating. Metsola expressed optimism that the agreement would initiate sustainable peace, increase aid, and transform despair into hope.
Earlier, the Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammad bin Abdulrahman, announced the conclusion of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
