Kuwait city: The Kuwait Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Summit commenced under the patronage of Oil Minister Tareq Al-Roumi, gathering government bodies, leaders, academic institutions, and civil society to advance the Gulf region's transition to clean and sustainable energy.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) Deputy Managing Director for Sustainability Abdullah Al-Ayyar, speaking on behalf of the minister, emphasized that the summit aims to guide decision-makers in balancing energy security and environmental responsibility. He affirmed that ESG principles are integrated into KPC's strategy and operations, aligning with Kuwait Vision 2035. Al-Ayyar highlighted KPC's commitment to reducing emissions by enhancing energy efficiency, minimizing gas flaring, accelerating digital transformation for operational efficiency, and incorporating renewable energy and low-carbon technologies.
Arab Energy Organization (AEO) Secretary-General Jamal Al-Loughani noted that oil and gas will remain predominant energy sources in the coming decades, stressing that the global energy transition should be fair and gradual. He pointed out that clean fossil fuels will continue to play a role in climate change efforts and highlighted that GCC states, committed to carbon neutrality by 2025, are demonstrating that environmental protection is achievable.
Kuwait ESG Organizing Committee Chair Yousef Shamouh stated that the event aligns with Kuwait's commitment to sustainable development, addressing climate challenges, and progressing toward a green economy. The two-day summit, themed "Advancing Clean Energy Solutions for a Sustainable Gulf Region," provides a platform for leaders from both the public and private sectors to explore practical solutions to environmental and climate challenges and to enhance cooperation for a sustainable future in the Gulf region.
