Erdogan announces Turkey’s intention to build a new aircraft carrier, the second after the Anadolu Agency

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced his country’s intention to build a new aircraft carrier, twice as large as the first aircraft carrier, the Anatolia, which Turkey built and launched on the tenth of this month.

The Turkish President said in a speech today in the state of Sakarya, northwest of the country: “We will build an aircraft carrier twice the size of (TCG Anadolu), indicating that his country will direct the aircraft carrier / TCG Anadolu / to the state of Izmir and that it will remain on its coast for about a week or 10 days.

The aircraft carrier / “TCG ANADOLU” / had left the port of Sarayburnu in Istanbul, in which it docked on April 16, to start receiving visitors from citizens, days after it entered service and handed it over to the Turkish navy, which included it in its fleet as the largest home-made warship.

The aircraft carrier “TCG Anadolu” is 231 meters long, 32 meters wide, and the maximum payload is 27 thousand tons and 436 kilograms, and its maximum speed is 20.5 knots, while the economic speed is 16 knots.

Anadolu can carry 13 tanks, 27 amphibious armored vehicles, 6 troop carriers, 33 military vehicles and 15 trailers, i.e. a total of 94 vehicles, and its flat surface accommodates 10 helicopters and 11 attack marches, while its hangar can carry 19 helicopters or 30 offensive marches, in addition to accommodating it to a crew of 1,223, according to the Turkish defense statement.
