Envoy Al-Mutairi: Kuwait’s Joining Arab League “Watershed” Event

Kuwait city: Kuwait's joining of the Arab League on July 20, 1961, was a milestone and historic moment that contributed to boosting the country's independence and sovereignty and entrenched further its Arab identity, the Kuwaiti Permanent Delegate at the Arab League Ambassador Talal Al-Mutairi has affirmed.

According to Kuwait News Agency, in a statement on the 64th anniversary of Kuwait's Arab League membership, Ambassador Al-Mutairi said this step was a non-controversial affirmation of Kuwait's Arab identity and belonging to the fabric of the Arab nation.

Kuwait, since independence, has adopted a clear strategic vision based on relentless action to support Arab causes and bolster joint Arab action. Ambassador Al-Mutairi affirmed that since then, it has remained a basis for common Arab action.

Ambassador Al-Mutairi further emphasized that Kuwait, since joining the Arab organization, has adopted a wise and balanced policy, narrowing the gulf among warring parties and resolving strife through peaceful means, indicating that it advocates unity of the Arab ranks in the face of regional and international challenges.

Kuwait, shortly after gaining independence on June 19, 1961, applied for membership in the Arab League. Its request was accepted, and it became the 20th member state of the organization in the same year.
