Egypt’s President Advocates for Palestinian State as Key to Middle East Peace

Cairo: Egyptian President Abdelfattah Al-Sisi reaffirmed that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state is the only viable path toward lasting peace and stability in the Middle East. This statement came during a phone call with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the presidential spokesman Mohamad El-Shennawy released a statement detailing the conversation. President Al-Sisi expressed his approval of the UK's recent announcement of its intention to recognize the State of Palestine. He highlighted that such recognition would be a positive step in restoring the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including the establishment of an independent state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

President Al-Sisi also emphasized Egypt's continuous efforts to de-escalate the situation in Gaza. He outlined Cairo's initiatives for a ceasefire agreement, the acceleration of humanitarian aid delivery, and the release of hostages and detainees. Additionally, he stressed the urgent need for reconstruction in the region and reiterated Egypt's firm rejection of any displacement of Palestinians from their land.

The call further addressed the strong relations between Egypt and the United Kingdom. Both leaders agreed to enhance cooperation in various sectors, particularly in economy, trade, tourism, education, and joint investment projects.
