Cairo: Egyptian Foreign Minister Bader Abdulatty engaged in talks with Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdulrahman focusing on the ongoing mediation efforts in the Gaza ceasefire discussions between Hamas and Israeli authorities.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Abdulatty initiated the phone conversation to address the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Tamim Khallaf, noted that both leaders emphasized the urgency of halting acts of violence by Israeli forces against Palestinian civilians and alleviating the humanitarian situation in the region.
The leaders expressed their commitment to accelerating efforts to establish a comprehensive ceasefire and prioritizing the swift delivery of aid to those affected in Gaza. Discussions also included plans for an international conference dedicated to the post-conflict recovery and reconstruction of Gaza, coordinated under an Arab-Islamic initiative.
Furthermore, the conversation highlighted the significance of rallying international backing for the creation of a Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, as part of the peace process.
