Cairo: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his British counterpart David Lammy discussed efforts to reach a ceasefire deal in the Gaza Strip and ensure the safe delivery of relief supplies to the besieged people there. During a phone conversation initiated by Secretary Lammy, Dr. Abdelatty emphasized the need for a firm stance from the international community to stop Israel's policies and remarks.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the Israeli actions risk expanding the cycle of violence in the entire Middle East region and breach all international laws and norms. These actions and statements counter efforts by international partners and regional stakeholders to halt the aggression on the Gaza Strip and deliver humanitarian aid unconditionally, Dr. Abdelatty stressed.
The Egyptian minister welcomed recent announcements by several Western countries, including the United Kingdom, regarding their intentions to recognize the State of Palestine during the UN General Assembly session in September. He noted that establishing an independent state of Palestine within the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, is the only way to ensure security and stability in the region.
Secretary Lammy briefed Dr. Abdelatty on his assessments of the planned recognition of Palestine and its possible implications, according to the statement. Both ministers reviewed arrangements for an international conference on post-conflict recovery and reconstruction in Gaza in collaboration with the Palestinian national authority and the United Nations.
Regarding bilateral ties, they discussed the progress of their strategic partnership, praising the momentum of cooperation in economic, commercial, and investment sectors.
