Egypt Emphasizes Need to Enhance Trade Relations with Lebanon

Egypt: Egypt's Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, emphasized the necessity of increasing trade volumes with Lebanon, reflecting strong bilateral relations and efforts to simplify customs procedures.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Al-Mashat made these remarks during a virtual meeting with Lebanese Minister of Economy and Trade, Dr. Amer Al-Bsat. The discussion included preparations for the upcoming 10th session of the Egyptian-Lebanese higher joint committee, which is scheduled to take place in Cairo later this month under the leadership of Prime Ministers Dr. Mostafa Madbouly and Dr. Nawaf Salam.

Al-Mashat highlighted that bilateral trade reached USD 1 billion in 2024, a significant rise from USD 774 million in 2023, indicating a 29.3 percent increase. She pointed out the promising opportunities available for Egyptian firms in construction, engineering, and development projects as part of Lebanon's reconstruction efforts.

The minister also mentioned the growing momentum in bilateral relations, referencing recent visits by Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam. Meanwhile, Al-Bsat emphasized the vast potential for investment and trade cooperation, advocating for increased business exchanges and utilizing Egypt's expertise in mega projects and industrial development.
