Cairo: Egypt's Higher Administrative Court has annulled votes in 26 more constituencies in the first round of parliamentary elections, increasing the total number of constituencies where votes have been cancelled to 45. The court announced this decision late on Saturday, underscoring significant legal actions taken in the electoral process.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the court rejected 100 challenges against the first-round votes but accepted others related to the latest ruling, which affects constituencies across nine governorates. The annulments follow allegations of count violations, leading to calls for either cancelling specific votes or scrapping the entire first-round election results.
The annulment decision comes after the National Elections Authority had already scrapped votes in 19 out of 70 constituencies where individual candidates competed in the initial phase of the Egyptian electoral race. This series of annulments highlights ongoing concerns and disputes over the electoral process in Egypt.
