Egypt and Senegal Stand Firm Against Infringement on Somalia’s Unity

Cairo: Egypt and Senegal reaffirmed their full rejection of any infringement on Somalia's unity and territorial integrity, including the Israeli occupation's recognition of Somaliland. This announcement was made during a joint press conference held by Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Senegalese counterpart Sheikh Niang, concluding their talks in Cairo.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Minister Abdelatty briefed his Senegalese counterpart on the developments of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). He emphasized Egypt's water scarcity and the importance of rejecting unilateral actions while upholding international law governing transboundary rivers. The discussions also spanned regional and international issues, with a particular focus on security and stability in Africa, considering Egypt's current leadership of the African Union Peace and Security Council.

Minister Abdelatty further elaborated that the talks addressed developments in the Middle East, especially the Palestinian conflict. He stressed the necessity of supporting efforts to solidify the ceasefire and expedite the transition to the second phase. Additionally, the dialogue touched upon the situation in Sudan, emphasizing the importance of preserving its sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, while rejecting parallel entities and opposing any attempts to divide or secede its territory.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister extended an invitation to Sheikh Niang to attend a meeting in Addis Ababa, chaired by Egypt, on the sidelines of the African Union Summit. This meeting will focus on developments in Sudan and Somalia, with participation from Peace and Security Council members and the foreign ministers of the two countries.
