Egypt and Poland Urge Return to Gaza Ceasefire Amid Rising Tensions

Kuwait City: Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty and Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski have called for an immediate return to a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. This appeal was made during a joint press conference in Cairo, following comprehensive bilateral discussions between the two leaders.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the ministers underscored the necessity of coordinated efforts to end the conflict in Gaza and firmly opposed any displacement of Palestinians. Abdelatty highlighted that their discussions focused on regional issues, particularly the Palestinian cause, describing it as "the core of the conflict in the region." The talks included a detailed examination of the current situation in Gaza and the urgent need to halt ongoing Israeli actions.

The ministers advocated for a return to the ceasefire agreement of January 19, which would facilitate the release of detainees and establish a sustainable truce, addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Abdelatty reiterated the importance of creating a political pathway for a Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The discussions also touched on the Red Sea region, emphasizing navigation freedom, along with crises in Libya, Syria, and Sudan. The Iranian nuclear issue and the international crisis from the Ukraine war were also on the agenda.

On bilateral matters, Abdelatty stated that talks focused on economic cooperation, stressing the need to boost trade and Polish investments in Egypt. They addressed the second tranche of the EU's financial assistance to Egypt, which is crucial as Poland holds the EU's rotating presidency.

Minister Sikorski affirmed the importance of addressing the global situation, reinforcing both nations' commitment to international order and regional security. He cited challenges such as the Russia-Ukraine war, the Gaza conflict, and issues in the Red Sea, Libya, and Sudan.

Sikorski shared Poland's EU presidency agenda with Abdelatty, highlighting cooperation between Egypt and the EU under a partnership agreement from March. He expressed Poland's support for the EU's financial aid to Egypt and its reform programs. Sikorski showed strong interest in expanding economic ties, particularly in technology, energy, and security sectors.
