Egypt and Palestine Reach Consensus on Gaza Security and Reconstruction

Cairo: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty announced a consensus with Palestinian Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Mustafa regarding security arrangements and future governance in the Gaza Strip. The announcement came during a joint press conference following their meeting.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the discussions centered on a comprehensive plan for post-war reconstruction and recovery stages in Gaza. Abdelatty outlined that the plan’s blueprint will be presented at the preparatory ministerial meeting scheduled in Cairo, serving as a precursor to its final approval at the Arab Summit. The proposed multi-stage plan includes debris clearance, removal of unexploded munitions, early recovery measures, and the construction of temporary housing for Palestinians while permanent reconstruction efforts are underway.

Abdelatty emphasized the importance of collaboration with UN organizations such as the UN Development Programme (UNDP), Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the World Bank, and other donors in executing the plan. The discussions also addressed the ongoing crisis in Gaza, the humanitarian plight of over two million Palestinians, the necessity of maintaining the fragile ceasefire, and the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces.

The dialogue further included plans for a transitional administration to manage Gaza’s affairs over six months, aiming to empower the Palestinian National Authority to fully assume control and restore unity between Gaza and the West Bank. Palestinian Prime Minister Mustafa expressed gratitude to Arab nations for their support and solidarity through the upcoming Emergency Arab Summit and ministerial conference on Gaza reconstruction. He praised the reconstruction strategy for its clarity and potential to improve living conditions for Palestinians.

Mustafa called on international donors and Arab countries to support the plan and assist in safeguarding the lives of approximately 1.25 million Palestinians displaced by the recent conflict in Gaza.
