Luanda: European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that significant progress has been made in the peace negotiations concerning Ukraine, thanks to a concerted effort by European nations. She emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong European presence to facilitate a fair and enduring peace in the region. This statement was made after an EU leaders' meeting on Ukraine, held in conjunction with the EU-Africa summit in Angola.
According to Kuwait News Agency, von der Leyen noted that while a solid foundation has been established, further efforts are necessary to achieve a comprehensive resolution. She urged European countries to remain united, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing Ukraine's interests, as the situation impacts the security of the entire continent both presently and in the future. The meeting in Luanda reinforced the EU's unwavering support for Ukraine.
Von der Leyen stressed the importance of respecting Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty, asserting that only Ukraine can decide its military and future course. She also pointed out the crucial role Europe will play in Ukraine's future, indicating that discussions with partners from the Coalition of the Willing will continue to explore ways to support Kyiv.
