Dust Storm Engulfs Kuwait, Reduces Visibility to Near Zero

Kuwait City: The dust storm has wholly covered Kuwait and it continues over this night, acting head of Kuwait's Meteorological Department Dherar Al-Ali said on Monday. Speaking to KUNA, Al-Ali said horizontal visibility has so far varied from 1,000m to less than 100m, noting it became invisible in some parts. West northern wind speed is more than 60 kmph, he noted.

According to Kuwait News Agency, weather is expected to gradually improve as of Tuesday morning. Al-Ali emphasized the importance of staying updated through the Department's official website and applications for the latest weather information.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior has urged the public to remain vigilant due to the low and, in some areas, nonexistent visibility. A statement from the ministry stressed the necessity of following instructions and advised residents not to leave their homes unless absolutely necessary. The ministry also encouraged people to call the emergency number (112) if needed.

In the same context, the Ministry of Health highlighted the importance of adhering to precautionary and health directives. It advised people to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary and urged those with asthma, allergies, or weak immunity to wear facemasks when outside and to take their medications regularly.
