Gaza City: Thousands of displaced Palestinians commenced returning to Gaza City and the northern Gaza Strip on Monday via the coastal Rashid Coastal Street in the central Gaza Strip, after more than 15 months of forced displacement. The main Gaza street was re-opened at 7:00 am, with only people, rather than vehicles, being allowed to use the route under a deal between Hamas and the Israeli occupation, the Gaza Interior Ministry said in a press release.
According to Kuwait News Agency, displaced persons would be allowed to travel by vehicles to the northern Gaza Strip after being inspected, via Salah al-Din Street. Earlier in the day, the Qatari Foreign Ministry said that displaced Palestinians in the southern Gaza Strip would be allowed to return to their homes in the northern enclave following an understanding reached between Hamas and the Israeli occupation.
Israeli occupation forces have launched an aggression on the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, killing and injuring more than 158,000 people, mostly children and women, and leaving more than 14,000 missing. More than 85 percent of the population of the Gaza Strip have been displaced due to the Israeli occupation aggression.
