China Reports 3,000+ Chikungunya Infections in Foshan City

Foshan: The Chinese health authorities announced that 3,195 cases of infection with the Chikungunya virus have been confirmed in Foshan city, Guangdong Province, since July 8. According to Kuwait News Agency, the majority of these cases, totaling 2,934, have been recorded in Shunde district. The statistics were reported by China's Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and were highlighted by CCTV. In response to the outbreak, the city has put its hospitals on alert and designated 3,600 beds specifically for patients affected by the virus. The CDC has stated that the Chikungunya virus is transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes and there is no evidence to suggest human-to-human transmission. The organization reassures that the epidemic is both preventable and curable. Symptoms of the disease include high fever, severe joint pain, muscle pain, skin rash, and severe fatigue.
