Kuwait city: Chinese Premier Li Qiang urged BRICS countries to take the lead in reforming global governance during the 17th BRICS Summit's plenary session on "Peace and Security and Reform of Global Governance." Li emphasized the need for the bloc to promote world peace and the peaceful resolution of disputes.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Li highlighted the accelerated pace of changes in the international arena, with existing rules and order facing significant challenges and the influence of multilateral institutions diminishing. He referred to the vision of global governance proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, which focuses on extensive consultation, joint contribution, and shared benefits, as increasingly relevant and practical.
Li stressed the importance of enhancing consultation based on equality and mutual respect amid growing conflicts. He also emphasized the necessity of pursuing joint contributions through solidarity due to deeply intertwined common interests and maintaining an open mind to achieve mutual success and shared benefits in light of development opportunities.
As a leading force in the Global South, Li urged BRICS countries to maintain independence, demonstrate responsibility, and contribute to building consensus and synergies. He called for the group to adhere to morality and justice and seek solutions based on the merits of each issue.
Li also emphasized the need for BRICS countries to focus on development, boost economic growth drivers, lead development cooperation, and explore growth potential in emerging sectors. He announced the establishment of a China-BRICS research center on new quality productive forces and a scholarship for talent cultivation in sectors such as industry and telecommunication.
Li called for fostering inclusiveness and advancing exchanges among civilizations, advocating for harmonious coexistence and mutual reinforcement of diverse cultures. He reiterated China's readiness to collaborate with other BRICS countries to promote global governance towards a more just, equitable, efficient, and orderly direction.
