Centcom Commends Yemeni Forces for Seizing Weapons Shipment Destined for Houthis

Aden: The US Central Command (CENTCOM) praised the Yemeni National Resistance Forces (NRF), led by Gen. Tareq Saleh, for their efforts in intercepting weapons intended for the Iran-backed Houthis. CENTCOM acknowledged the Yemeni Partners' ongoing efforts to halt the flow of illegal weapons systems and equipment to the Houthis, as stated on their X account on Thursday.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Yemeni security forces, in collaboration with the Public Prosecutor and Port of Aden authorities, intercepted a shipment on August 6. This shipment contained drones, jet propulsion systems, wireless devices, and advanced control components, all en route to the Iranian-backed Houthis. The cargo, originally destined for Al Hodeidah, Yemen, was redirected to Aden and uncovered during a joint inspection by counterterrorism, customs, and police units.

Yemeni authorities revealed that the shipment was part of a larger smuggling network exploiting the Houthi-controlled port of Al-Hodeidah to supply advanced military equipment to regional terrorist organizations. The interception aligns with United Nations Security Council Resolutions (UNSCR) and underscores Yemen's dedication to regional stability and maritime security.

Adm. Brad Cooper, Centcom Commander, lauded the action, stating, "For the second time in three weeks, we commend the legitimate government forces of Yemen who continue to interdict the flow of Iranian munitions and equipment bound for the Houthis." Cooper emphasized the significance of this seizure in highlighting Iran's ongoing involvement as a harmful player in the region, stressing that restricting the flow of Iranian support to the Houthis is vital for regional security, stability, and freedom of navigation.
